「踊るんだよ」

「音楽の鳴っている間はとにかく踊り続けるんだ。おいらの言っていることはわかるかい？踊るんだ。踊り続けるんだ何故踊るかなんて考えちゃいけない。意味なんてことは考えちゃいけない。意味なんてもともとないんだ。そんなこと考えだしたら足が停まる。一度足が停まったら、もうおいらには何ともしてあげられなくなってしまう。あんたの繋がりはもう何もなくなってしまう。永遠になくなってしまうんだよ。そうするとあんたはこっちの世界の中でしか生きていけなくなってしまう。どんどんこっちの世界に引き込まれてしまうんだ。だから足を停めちゃいけない。どれだけ馬鹿馬鹿しく思えても、そんなこと気にしちゃいけない。きちんとステップを踏んで踊り続けるんだよ。そして固まってしまったものを少しずつでもいいからほぐしていくんだよ。まだ手遅れになっていないものもあるはずだ。使えるものは全部使うんだよ。ベストを尽くすんだよ。怖がることは何もない。あんたはたしかに疲れている。疲れて、脅えている。誰にでもそういう時がある。何もかもが間違っているように感じられるんだ。だから足が停まってしまう」

「でも踊るしかないんだよ」

「それもとびっきり上手く踊るんだ。みんなが感心するくらいに。そうすればおいらもあんたのことを、手伝ってあげられるかもしれない。だから踊るんだよ。音楽の続く限り」

“You have to dance,” said the Sheep Man.

“As long as the music plays, you gotta dance. Don’t even think why. If you start thinking, your feet stop. Your feet stop, and we get stuck. We get stuck, and there’s nothing I can do for you. Your connection will be gone. Gone forever. And you’ll have to live in this world forever. You’ll be pulled in completely. So don’t stop your feet. No matter how foolish it seems, don’t pay any attention to it. Keep stepping, keep dancing. And unfreeze what’s been frozen, even just a little bit. There must be things that aren’t too late yet. Use everything you can. Do your best. There’s nothing to be afraid of. You’re tired, sure. Tired and frightened. It happens to everyone. You feel like everything is wrong, and that’s why your feet stop.”

“But you have to dance.”

“And dance exceptionally well. So well that everyone is amazed. If you do that, maybe I can help you out. So dance. As long as the music plays.”

Dance. As long as the music plays.
